Running Voltage

It is well know that the speed of a run can be increased by raising the running voltage. There is of course a penalty for this in the form of decreased readlength. Poly Net's MHS formulation allows for higher speed separations without raising your present voltage settings. Since the voltage is not raised there is no penalty in readlength. If you use 7 kV for 150 minutes you can continue to use 7 kV but shorten your run time to about 130 minutes and get the same quality.

Using a running voltage above 10 kV has been shown to lead to a higher percentage of failed lanes. This can come about because of joule heating or hot spots in the capillary caused by higher currents. Poly Nets MHS can run at 10 kV using the same current as Amersham's matrix but runs faster.
